30th Czech Lion -nominations

Tuesday, 17th January, 2023

The Czech Film and Television Academy (CFTA) has announced the nominations for the jubilee 30th Czech Lion Awards today. In the record competition of last year, the most nominations have been obtained by the films Arved and Il Boemo, followed by the movies BANGER. and Nightsiren. In the final round of voting altogether 32 films will be fighting for the Czech Lion statuettes in 19 statutory categories.

The Czech Lion Awards will be presented to their rightful owners for the thirtieth time during a live broadcast of the Czech Television on the CT1 channel. The ceremony will be broadcast on 4th March at 20:10 from Rudolfinum in Prague. The host of this year’s gala evening will be Jiří Havelka for the second time.

More information on www.ceskylev.cz. It will be also possible to watch the live broadcast online on www.ceskatelevize.cz.

During the vote about the nominees for 30th jubilee Czech Lion Awards, altogether 183 film professionals evaluated 47 feature actors’ films, 15 documentary features chosen by the preselection committee of CFTA, 16 television works of art, 9 animated and also 10 short films that had been also chosen by the preselection committee of CFTA. The voting took place from 1st December to 8th January 2023. The academics appreciated most the psychological mysterious drama Arved directed by Vojtěch Mašek and gave it twelve nominations. The film describes the story of a real person also known as “the devil of Lesser Town”, who was a Nazi collaborator and a minion of the communist regime. The final jousting will be also entered by the historical epic film Il Boemo with eleven nominations. The film was directed by Petr Václav and rediscovers the life as well works of the most famous Czech composer of the 18th century Josef Mysliveček.  Eight nominations went to the film BANGER. – a wild and adrenalin ride full of rap and drugs that was shot solely on the iPhone of the director Adam Sedlák. The mysterious drama Nightsiren by Tereza Nvotová, who roused some rural witchcraft legends of old, obtained 7 nominations. In the competition for the Czech Lions there are also four works of art that had been given 4 nominations each - Grand Prix by Jan Prušinovský, Medieval by Petr Jákl, Victim by Michal Blaško and a television miniseries Suspicion, which was also directed by Michal Blaško.
